A month or so ago, I led the Tuesday night “Intro to Zen” class through a “three-by-three” meditation, which is designed to cultivate the experience of open awareness or presence. Here is a PDF that includes instructions for that particular meditation, reproduced from Chapter 4 of Ezra Bayda’s book Being Zen. This film, entitled Happy Teachers Will Change the World, is an introduction to the Wake Up Schools organization, a movement started by Thich Nhat Hanh and his students to bring mindfulness into education. Also very good is the related book, Happy Teachers Will Change the World: A Guide for Cultivating Mindfulness in Education (by Thich Nhat Hanh and Katherine Weare).
This is an inspiring video about the Holistic Life Foundation, an organization that is bringing yoga, mindfulness, and other contemplative practices to public schools in Baltimore.
